Campus and Church
I realize that I skipped Friday because I got so excited about the bags that I was sewing on Saturday. So we will turn the clock back just a bit. Here is a photo I snapped of the UMIP campus as we drove in.
We met Brenda and Perry at the church and then walked over to the English department.
They received us so graciously and assured us they were going to announce our practice time to all the English classes. We found out that beginner English class is on M, T and Wed from 1:30 to 4:00 so that will knock them out of coming. However that leaves the intermediate classes and we feel like we can be more help to them anyway.
Then we just walked around handing out flyers and cookies to everyone we met. It was very fun just to talk with a lot of the cadets. We spent about an hour and a half doing that. Here's Brenda just as we were finishing:
The campus has a great view of the Bridge of the Americas:
I felt funny making too many photos on campus but I snapped this one quickly as some cadets were eating:
Hopefully our efforts will bring some results this Tuesday! Afterwards Rick and I went to eat lunch. When we got home, he left to get a haircut and I had a message from Cheryl saying she would bring over the cloth for the bags.
So you already know what I did all of Saturday. ☺
Yesterday we went back to our church, El Dorado:
We are enjoying having a "regular" place to go and meeting a few people that we can put names with. On Friday night they had a children's program on spiritual armor and they left the sanctuary decorated:
Our pastor is preaching through I Thessalonians and the sermons have been really good. We love how he is so comfortable in his role. He just loves Jesus and loves people and has a good time.
Yesterday afternoon we finally did the Ice Bucket challenge - pouring ice water over our heads for a good cause. We went back over near the school and I was able to get this ship in the background of Rick's video:
The videos are on fb. We did not challenge anyone else because it appears to be coming to an end and probably people are getting sick of it. ☺ As soon as we got home, I started sewing again and got two more bags finished and the rest of the linings cut out.
We noticed this on our front gate yesterday:
Just as relaxed as a little squirrel could be. Maybe he had too much Sunday dinner and was needing a nap!
That brings me to this day, Monday! We were supposed to meet with the realtor for the first time today at 2:00 p.m. So I got an early start on the laundry, with it all done and put away before 12:00. Washed my hair and put on my make up, too! Also baked a batch of cookies to take to English practice tomorrow - oatmeal, chocolate chip, raisin, coconut and pecan - and cleaned up all the mess. We had not heard back from her by 1:00 and we did not know where we were supposed to meet. Finally Rick got her on the phone and she said she had an "accidente". She did not use the word "choque" which is used for car accident. So we don't know what happened, if she "accidently" forgot about us or if something else hindered her. My mind just went to "And here we go". This will not be a quick process. ☺ But that's okay. We aren't homeless and we don't have any deadline for when we have to be out of our house. Rick just keeps getting eaten every day.:-(
I already had black bean soup in the crockpot for dinner because I knew we would get in late this afternoon. That just gave me more sewing time! My goal was to make one more bag tonight but instead I got two finished! In just a few minutes I am going to go back and sew on the last 3 linings. That will get me ahead of the game. I hope to finish 3 more bags and give 9 to Cheryl on Friday morning when I see her at prayer meeting. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm also going to make a photo of them all together.
So that was our Labor Day weekend. Sure hope all of you had a great one!
